Finally found my first gold ring, I was using a Fisher CZ-21 that I've used for about 12 hours total on a few separate occasions.
This machine works awesome at finding deep objects in the surf. It's not taken long at all to get used to. I use an AT-pro for my land metal detecting. I tried using the pro-in salt water but have a very hard time with the salt water in New England. It's great for land and freshwater but I find it terrible in salt water. That could just be me.
After researching for a good salt water metal detector it came down to the Excalibur 2 and the CZ 21.. I chose the CZ 21 because I do not like the signal sounds of the Excalibur... Sounds like a dying cat.
The ring was found in secondary beach, this would be a beast that does get traffic but not like some of the beaches in New England. I'm in Rhode Island by the way. I met a man last week at this beach who metal detects it frequently. He told me there is about eight others that do the same there. He told me he found 23 gold rings last year and was very pleasant to speak to. I told him I was new to saltwater detect and he told me keep at it and I will find gold eventually.
The CZ ring out a mid tone and a high tone, on the second scoop the mid tone was gone but the high tone was still there. Normally I would dump the scoop but the mid tone I was getting before seemed like a separate signal so I shook the scoop and took a peek and was extremely happy at what I've seen. 10K with two diamonds and an amethyst stone.. It's not huge or heavy but it's a great way to start the year in the surf.
Since I've metal detected extensively on land last year I want to do both land and sea this year. The CZ 21 is outstanding in salt water. I know I only have about 12 hours of in water use with it but I'm extremely impressed at how deep I can pull targets.
I dug crusted out pennies at at least a foot and a half deep in the surf. Anyone thinking of buying a salt water machine should really consider the CZ 21. Hopefully I'll find much more jewelry to add to my metal detecting treasures..
Other than pennies I did manage to dig quite a few quarters out of this beach area which I was surprised since it gets hit so hard over the winter.
Although some of the sections of this beach were almost signal free from others detecting this past winter.

most times the winters suck but the scenery is awesome in many parts of RI.. I was doing a beach in Warwick RI when I found the ring
