The first session of 2015 produced the first hammered coin of 2015. Looks like an Edward III penny 1327-77, should clean up well. A good start to 2015 !!!!.

Robert.

Great finds. Nice way to start the new year off. Thanks for sharing.

Electrolysis, by far the best way on good silver coins.

Nice hammered, thought the old spit in the foil trick would work.

The oldest coin that I have found would probably be considered fairly modern to you. I would be shocked if I found any thing half that age (actually after doing the math I was surprised to figure out I have found a coin half that age... yes I was completely shocked finding it) Very nice hammered, a terrific start to 2015.

Lucky, finds are so much cooler on that side of the pond. :occasion14:

Nice coin Robfinds ! Is the consensus on these that it's OK to clean them - unless you get a really rare one /mint ?

A very nice coin!

Congrats,

Buck

Nice hammered find! The only thing I have found hammered here in New England is door nails. :icon_thumleft:

Hello pepperj, spit in foil is basic electrolysis, and is a good method. Using a machine though is better

I clean most hammered coins I find Argentium. I only leave Saxon pennies to the experts. Saxon pennies can look really stable, but can be very fragile.

Here's some pictures after cleaning the coin. It's Edward III Treaty period 1361-69, Durham mint.Reverse reads CIVITAS DVREME. If you look at the top of the cross on the reverse. It bends over to form the shape of a bishops crozier.

I really never thought of it that way Robert, how long do you cook it to get the result, as in this instance?

You had the same start as us, 1 hammered same day, but I would have swapped your our Henry III for that one!

Very nice and congratulations!
