Well, I knew it had to happen sooner or later. The nice weather we've been having has got me wanting to be out there swinging. So I took off today and did just that. :)

A Friend has been telling me about a food plot on his hunting club that has flowers growing in it. He didn't mention all the large chimney rocks scattered all over it. :D So I spent about 1.5 hours digging and found a few things. Not my best day but sure felt good to be swinging again.

If anyone knows what the coin is, please tell. :icon_scratch: :laughing9:

Hope you enjoy looking.
Randy

Hey Pete, good to hear from you. I been watching your post's. Sure wish I had some of those good places to hunt like you. :D I will be back to this site as I only did 1.5 hours. It's a fairly large place and the chimney must have been huge. I never saw so many chimney rocks on one site.

Good luck

I've seen site like that myself when looking for bottles back in the day. Most of the time it was because they usually had two or three chimneys on these old type homes.Just piles of bricks left is all, besides a few bottles. But never have gone back to those sites yet to look with the MD.Most are in thick areas and not quite the age I like as of now.But sure some things can be found that would be neat.
Best to you & the family,
Pete, :hello:

good spot HB.. RPG, that would very likely make it a late 1700's Carolus III 2 reale and with the wear, an early/mid-1800's drop .. Nice find, spanish is good ;D :headbang:

It is silver. What is the diameter of a 2 reales?

Hey HB. I see what you are seeing and you can see it in hand also but it is so worn what you are seeing could aslo be the shine of the silver. :dontknow:

Thanks umrgolf, I sure hope it is. If you notice it is egg shaped and measures between 18.5mm and almost 20mm. I don't know the dimensions for Spanish coinage but I do know it's not a merc, barber or seated. ::) Also the reeded edge looks like the teeth on a saw blade. :icon_scratch:

Looks like a Spanish and a trigger guard piece. Not sure what the spiky engraved brass item is below it, but it could also be musket related. Not sure what size your spanish is, but looks like a GREAT day to me!

Good to see you posting!

Best Wishes,

Buck

Hey Will, the wife was just asking about you the other day. Are you still in La?

The spiky thing is part of the trigger guard. A recent break in a plowed food plot. The two fit together.

The coin is completly worn. It measures between 18.5mm and approx. 19.8mm as it is egg shaped. Sure hoping for a spanish coin.

Good luck to ya.

To small for a two reale.Could be a one though or even a stretched out 1/2 as it looks to have been used as a spinner or whirlly toy. With the holes. Not a button as that design would not work well.

What if we just call it a spanish/colonial whirly toy. :laughing9:

the button in the picture with the coin is a cuff button, not a coat  bad guess on my part :laughing7: :P
Not a bad guess at all buddy.I'd say it was a good one with no size to go by. Now the only other thing that would help would be the weight of what's left but it being so worn it would only give another guess or idea. They can wear mighty smooth as I've got one that's pretty smooth & hard to make out.I think you've got the best guess for it but maybe a 1 reale.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

I rotated it a 1/4 turn and you can clearly see the outline of the bust.
You found your Spanish Randy.

Agreed, not a bad guess at all. I should have put something in there for reference. :-\

Thanks HB, I have done the same thing over and over but didn't want to come to conclusions. That also puts the III in the correct place.

Thanks again to everyone. I had my fingers crossed for a spanish. They are few and far in south Al. ;D

Definitely a reale.. I just reread my last reply and didn't word it right at all. I was trying to say my original guess was based on me thinking the button in the picture was a coat sized flat button, but it must be a cuff for that sized coin to be a 1 reale.. :) :laughing7:

Yep, no doubt in my mind now. The more I look at it the more detail I see. I can see one of the pillars and the crown on the reverse. ;D

I will try and get better pics tonight that will show what I see.

Man, this is cool. Never thought I'd get a spanish. 8)
