Relic Hunting
Me and my Brother (lifes a garden dig it) met up today to do some detecting, but we first went and ate some breakfast with the landowner, discussing some sites and swapping history stories. It's really nice to be able to get your mindset of 175 yrs ago and than take your detector out as a tool and find coins and relics to display that time frame of history.

Once we got to the field detecting, we started digging the usual iron and square nails, but it wasn't long my bro gives out a shout and waving me over with excitement. He said he had a big button or coin, so once I got to him i asked to look at it and told him it was a electrical box knockout. he was alittle depressed, until I told him that he just found his first large cent!!! We probably didn't have to find anything else the rest of the day, because it sure made his day and mine as well seeing him enjoy finding his first old copper. His second which is possibly his best find of the day was a pewter toy figure of a boy that would date to this same time period of the large cent.

My find of the day was digging a parasol and out come a good part of a arrow head in the same hole, pretty awesome to find two parts of our American history.

We went on with the day, bringing home some pewter buttons, a early axe head, the stem of the old homes key, a parasol, a bone handle pocket knife, flat button, spoon handle, suspender clip, garter clip and a couple of what is its.

Thanks for looking, Bill

Pocketknife is sweet!

Nice batch of relics! That spoon handle sure is ornate! I had one made into a necklace for my ex and it looked great!

Very cool finds!

Classic Bill. :laughing7: Sounds like my type of joke.
You guys got some great finds. That pewter toy is way cool. Those LC's seem to elude me. I've only dug two or three in over 10 years. :dontknow:
Thanks for the post,
Doug

Awesome finds! Congrats on a great day!

You had a good day buddy! The toy is a really cool find. What was the date on the coin?

LOL, oh yeah it's all about having a good time :laughing7:. The toy figure was unexpected, we don't find many toys at these old home sites, so it was definitely a find of the day.

Thanks, the date area is worn and we couldn't read it, but I would think it's around the 1830's as some other finds previously were in that time frame.

I love all those great finds, my favorite is the arrowhead.

Thanks, the arrowhead is a very nice find. it just adds so much more time in history showing this site was occupied much earlier than the old homesite.

I'd say it was a GOOD day Bill with lots of keepers. WTG, Q.

thanks, it was a really nice day, the weather was so much better than are big freeze a few days prior and than sharing in fellowship with the landowner always makes for a good day. I must get busy though in my researching, because it's been too long since i have dug a CW button and it would make another good day to buy someones lunch :tongue3:.
