Me and my Brother (lifes a garden dig it) met up today to do some detecting, but we first went and ate some breakfast with the landowner, discussing some sites and swapping history stories. It's really nice to be able to get your mindset of 175 yrs ago and than take your detector out as a tool and find coins and relics to display that time frame of history.
Once we got to the field detecting, we started digging the usual iron and square nails, but it wasn't long my bro gives out a shout and waving me over with excitement. He said he had a big button or coin, so once I got to him i asked to look at it and told him it was a electrical box knockout. he was alittle depressed, until I told him that he just found his first large cent!!! We probably didn't have to find anything else the rest of the day, because it sure made his day and mine as well seeing him enjoy finding his first old copper. His second which is possibly his best find of the day was a pewter toy figure of a boy that would date to this same time period of the large cent.
My find of the day was digging a parasol and out come a good part of a arrow head in the same hole, pretty awesome to find two parts of our American history.
We went on with the day, bringing home some pewter buttons, a early axe head, the stem of the old homes key, a parasol, a bone handle pocket knife, flat button, spoon handle, suspender clip, garter clip and a couple of what is its.
Thanks for looking, Bill
