Hi all. Cjon455 and I finally got out together this year. We met up and went a bit north to his Old Faithful, a very old cornfield site. He has hit this place probably 40 times, but has concentrated on one end only. We decided to do this same end again, as he wanted to see how his new Etrac would do as compared to the AT Pro he has used there before. It was my first time detecting it, and I can see why he likes it so well. We had not been there too long and I made a find that I knew was old by the dark green patina, but I couldn't see what it was because it was frozen fast in a clod of dirt. I walked over to unveil it in front of Chris, and we were both happy to see it was part of a nice old buckle. Maybe late 1700's? Hope someone knows. That was to be my only keeper in about 2 1/4 hours. Chris wanted to go scouting a bit and we started walking back to the car. On the way ( it never fails, does it? ), Chris and I both made a couple decent finds at about the same time. Mine was the small flat button ( early 1800's, judging by the small size ). In the field, it appeared to have gold gilt on the backside, but after cleaning with some naval jelly and Qtip, it is silver plated apparently. Best Quality with an eagle and looks like 7 stars. Was good to get out and thanks Chris for the trip!

Great buckle parts and button! Congrats! Nice to get out there and dig!

Guess you two frolicked well if your finding that kind of goodies! Go frolic some more in that field, and don't forget the happy dance!

I promise you there's something good still there. You fellas need to get back over there and dig dig dig!

Very nice bud. 1720-1790 on your buckle piece....love it. Nice looking buttons as well

This will give you an idea what the complete buckle may have looked like though there's several different styles with that attachment

Ahab, I think your spot on with the buckle.
I found the same one last year.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1427472557.349314.webp
