First hunt of 2020 finds a 300+ year old buckle

Fields still off limits till February but I took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and hit the water for my first hunt in about a month. Keepers were a flat button, homemade sinker and the early two piece spur? buckle that’s 1680-1720 era

The vast majority of square/oval shaped two piece buckles would date after 1720. Other shapes were not popular after that. The type of chape, if present, would further determine if it was pre 1720. This one is neither square nor is the chape of the later style. Hope this helps

It's very similar to a silver spur buckle Cru'dad found. Although I thought this type of buckle was 16th-17th C, the Authorities disagreed & handed it back as not Treasure. ie. not over 300 years old. They dated it to circa 1720.
