Hunted a very old river beach today - settled in 1878, found this ring. My wife says it is Rose gold / diamond? It looks to be quite an old / simple style. I can't read the hallmark even with my magnifying glass - it has dirt etc and looks to be worn down a tad - what do you think? I'll be a very happy chappy if it is authentic :icon_pirat:

Since it does in fact have a hallmark I would lean towards rose gold as well. The stone of course is another animal. Hope it's real for ya.
If it was just copper I doubt it would have a hallmark. They use more copper mixed with pure gold to make rose gold which gives it that "rose" color. Not sure when they started doing it.

Take it to a jewlery shop and ask them to test the stone. Most won't charge you for just testing it.

Have it checked out, but looks good!

nice looking ring. get it tested or buy a acid test kit and diamond tester. should not cost over $40 for both.

Thanks all, fingers crossed, I'll post the result either way. :icon_thumleft:

Smoogle, congrats on the ice! I have a 20x jewelers loupe..... if the diamond has flaws and shows no wearing on the cut corners theirs a very good chance it's real! A lot of the older rings I have found are not marked! Hope it turns outs either way you did great!!!!

Thanks - I went back to the same river beach this arvo and although not valuable, I got my first predecimal coin - a 1963 Sixpence and half of what looks like a very old pocket knife - I have seen aerial shots of the beaches at this location from the 1940's and after groynes, new marina etc this was the only one that looked the same as the current google earth view. The sand is very hard underneath (after only 3 inches) and I feel targets may lay hidden here from ages ago ...also not being disturbed by wave action or severe flood flow - I hope. Have not had ring checked yet - but after cleaning it up a bit I'm getting more confident. :icon_thumleft:

Good luck on a nice ring..... hopefully that stone a good one as well.
