I good day - got out for lunch hour here in cold New England. Hit a baseball field behind an old church. On third beep - got my first ever Indian - 1885. Also a 1950 Wheatie - lots (9) of lincoln cents from the 60's including 1965 quarter. Will be back soon....

How best to clean - boiling Peroxide for 60 seconds? Lemon/Lemon Juice? Olive Oil soak? A combo?

Thanks in advance!!!

Dry clean with wooden toothpick or let it soak in olive oil and then clean with wooden toothpick.
Congrats

Congratz on your first IHP! I got my first IHP in January. It was a 1888.

congrats on your first,.Dont go the Lemon juice or peroxcide method with that one.The copper is not old enough will probably turn color on you.I would go with the suggestion above.

I hope that is the first of many to come. Congrats.

Congrats on your first injun I'm sure there will be many more. Good luck

Congratulations on your first Indian Head

Thanks - this seems to be the way to go - slow and steady (repeat) - will post pics of the progression......so stoked - such a cool surprise to find :)

Congrats on breaking the ice on the IHPs. :occasion14: I am certain you will dig more from now on. I let my IHPs soak in hot soapy water and then gently brush with the softest toothbrush I have. After it dries I dry clean using tooth pics like mentioned in a previous post. If the IHP is extremely crusty I use mineral oil. It will not darken the coin like EVOO does.

I found about 140 Indians last year and I'm already up to 38 this year due to the warm January. I hit them with a Scotch Brite pad. I also do hot peroxide. Last, but not least, I use these cleaning pencils on Indians and 2 cent pieces. Here's a before and after with peroxide and these cleaning pencils I use. I also put on a preservative when I was done.

I wish I could get my 'after' pics to look like your 'before' pics!

Congrats on your first Indian! I will never forget my first one, it was a jade green 1875, my mouth fell open when I saw the headdress!

I hope that you find many more of them, and silvers to keep them company!

Congrats on your first. I have found over 100 indians since starting detecting last year. Oddly enough, the best condition of all of them was my very first, an 1865

Sweetness my turn!!!

Congratulations on the IH find!

very nice finds

Thx Don!!! I live vicariously through your posts/find reports - Keep em coming!

If you are in Brewster NY, I'll be passing through your neck of the woods in May - have to head to Sterling Forest for a week.
