Well I've been waiting quite a while for my first large cent...never thought it would come out of Nebraska though! Rang up like a silver quarter and possible half on the DFX...sure was a nice surprise!

That is quite an awesome find ggossage. :headbang: How deep was it? I keep hoping for that surprise someday. Looking forward to getting together someday.

Big E! Good to see you still here...the coin was a surprise at 5-6 inches. I found much newer keepers in the same area, so that's why the LC surprised me so much--a '23 buffalo nickel, a couple of mercs and a couple of IHPs. The area is old enough to produce a LC, but the lack of similarly age related targets makes me suspect that it was a fluke. I'm going to hit the same area for a while in hopes of disproving that theory ;D

Let me know when you're in town and I'll drag you out to the sticks with me!

The story behind your coin's history appears to be intriguing--perhaps it was worn as part of an ornamental arrangement--thus the two holes, and perhaps how it travelled to where you found it.

All the best,

Lanny

Two odd-sized holes throws me too...not sure what to think of that. I've been watching all these folks post LC after LC and I've wanted one so long that I don't even care you can see through the coin ;D

very cool. no doubt a rare dig in Nebraska. I sure would like to dig one some day, but the chance of finding one where I live would be like 1 in a trillion.

I hope your odds aren't that slim--perhaps you can find an area where folks passed through OK in the mid 1800s?

Good find. I have only found one here in Minnesota.

With as much success as you've had, I'm not surprised you caught one up there! I still daydream about that 8 over 7 SLQ that you found! :icon_thumleft:

In Neb or just midwest only there hard to find. Looks just like my 1825 LC out of Ft. Calhoun, NE now that was a surprise for me. Great job :hello2: HH

I'd like to see a good photo of that one Terry--sorry I missed it! Good luck out there!

Congrats on your first L.C. They are rare here for sure. Got my first here in Iowa, 2nd in Neb. and 3rd in So.Dak.

Thanks Deano--I don't know if you know this, but in my, and several others' opinions you're the gold standard for the Midwest. Keep up the great work! :icon_thumleft:
