Well Baldingboy and I hadn't been able to get out and hunt for almost two weeks with the ice storm last week and the weather man said another storm was coming in. So even though it was only 32 degrees when we got off work last night we decided to go hunting.

I pulled up at work and BB was standing there in his camo TuTu, knee pads, headlight, earphones and hunting belt on. He says to me, "I'm not going to let you even get out of the car and open the trunk before I am digging my first target!" "I'm gonna smoke you tonight!" Well a few ladies from work walked out right then and wet themselves laughing at the camo TuTu, or maybe it was my "spock" ears and fairy wings? Who knows???

Anyway I had done a lot of computer work for a local lawyer and because he is young and (if you can call a lawyer your friend) a friend of mine I asked him for permission to hunt ONE of his rental properties. He told me no then gave me permission to hunt ALL 7!!!!! Who hooooooooo!!!! We picked the one that ws the most promising on the list and headed for it.

When we got there it was as I said 32 degrees with a 15-20 MPH wind! A little cold. We started detecting and I found a few pennies and a Yamaha Key. Then I walk over to BB to show him the key and he pulls out a door knob and a glass bowled carb from a small engine??? Well I could already tell that it was going to be one of those nights where BB finds all the good stuff and I get the left overs. I was walking back to my area when I got an overload and found this Platinum spark plug. I know it isn't the same as a ring but hey it says Platinum!!!!

We hunted for another 45 minutes with nothing exciting happening. I dug 3 pull tabs at 4-5 inches and was really get fed up when I got another signal that indicated pull tab or penny maybe? So I looked and it was between 6 and 8 inches. I decided not to dig it and took a step away, then thought to myself that I planned on hunting this place many times so I might as well dig up all the trash and get rid of it. I'm glad I did. 7-8 inches down I pulled out what I first thought was a pair of the pilot wings that they used to give when you flew on a plane as a kid. It was covered in dirt so I put it in my pouch and went back to detecting. A minuter later I pulled an almost perfectly straight square nail! Now things were looking up. Just then BB looks at me and holds up 3 keys on a ring and waves them daintily, or as daintily as a man of his size can. And stuck his tounge out at me and said, "Hah you found one key I found three" Then let out a "BAM" that I'm sure was heard in Chicago. The little lady from across the street thought BB was shooting at me and called the Cops!!!!

I started walking toward BB and got a good signal and dug the Belt Buckle? It says Nickel Plate on the back and a Pat number. The initials are HFG!!!!!!

Anyway I went back to detecting and immediately found the 57 wheat followed by the green hotwheels car followed by the Jet and then the mother load of the night (ok maybe the 3rd or 4th) I found my lead solider sans head. For any of you that follow my hunts with BB you know he found a lead soldier a few weeks back. This thing is SWEET!!!!!!

Then I got a call from my father-in-law whose house had burnt down earlier in the day asking for me to help him try to rescue stuff from his basement so I had to leave. I almost cried and that is the truth. It was the first time I had gotten out to hunt in two weeks and I was having a good night, maybe the best of my detecting career up to this point and I felt bad because I wanted BB to find something good too. Since we drove together we had to leave. BB could have went back but it isn't a place I would want to hunt by myself without a gun so he went on home. So trying to be compassionate to BB but also trying to savor the moment I finally had a hunt where BB didn't one up me! I'm glad he is a good friend and so understanding about me having to leave.

Monday is supposed to be 52 and sunny and I am going to drag BB back to that place kicking and screaming. We have 28 degrees and an inch and a half of sleet/freezing rain right now and the roads are ice covered glad I got to go last night!!!!

Love the St. Christopher pendant. Looks like a big chunk of silver.
Your passion to hunt in weather extremes is very inspiring.

Keep it going, buddy!

Sadly the Winged item is made out of something other than silver. It has no stamp anywhere and the back is hollow. That is to say very thin metal with the reverse of the medal stamped in the thin sheet of aluminum? Still I don't mind I LOVE it!!!! It is only the second peiece of religous treasure I have found and really really cool!!!!

I got frost bite just reading the post. LOL All are neat finds to me. Congrats and get back there soon.
