Hello all,

Looking forward to diving into my new hobby. My wife decided upon a whim she wanted a metal detector for Christmas for the fun of it. Well, after much research and rising interest the date has been moved up to her birthday the 23rd of this month. Guess what, picked up my (her) new AT Pro last week! Hitting the ground running and off to the beaches of Galveston in a couple of weeks. BIG shoutout to Bart and Devan at BIG Boys Hobbies! I am in the Dallas area actually working within a couple of miles of the Garrett factory. Saw that Mr Bart is well received in these forums and decided to yell at them. Caught Devan on the phone instead and after three enthsiastic conversations with him knew I would have to purchase from these guys. Finally caught Bart on the phone and not only did he beat every body elses prices but shipped FREE...OVERNIGHT! They will be my go to guys from now on. Not just as suppliers but as advisors as well. They haved answered my many questions and pointed me in all the right directions. Thanks Bart and Devan! See all yall in the field and on the beach!

Welcome to Tnet..webpYou are going to love the hobby and the AT Pro.

Thanks Sandman! We are loving it!

They are the best. I am so happy I bought my ATP and my 5x8 coil from Big Boys Hobbies. When I ordered my 5x8 coil he told me it was out of stock but I ordered it anyway and it was still here in like 4 days. I was shocked. I was expecting at least a week.

I can't say enough about them.

If you have any questions just post and guys with a lot of experience like sandman will help you out. You are not going to find good stuff all the time like those shows lead you to believe but when you do find the good stuff it makes digging all the junk worth it.

Wow! Did you have a change of heart Sandman? He said he was taking his AT Pro to the beach and he didn't get told it wasn't going to work? Lol

The AT Pro is good at the beach isn't it? One reason I choose it!

Hey Man..Ive heard Mixed reviews of people saying it wasnt good on the beach..some say its fine...from MY expericance...I have never had issues on the beach...thou i was out waist deep in the water, but i was able to find Pulltab after pulltab..lol

Good luck with your new machine!..ive been loving mine!

Thanks for the props and you got yourself a AWESOME machine! Holler if you have questions!

Evan is the guy that helps me not Devan. I think from now on I will call him that! lol He goes by Gone Hunting on the forums.

I've had my ATP for a year now (another highly satisfied customer of of Bart @ Big Boys Hobbies!). I hunt in Pro mode and Custom. Once you get some hours in and really learn it, it is a great machine.

Even after a year I am still learning new techniques and better ways to use mine. I have read posts on here with complaints about the ATP eating batteries. The batteries in mine seem to last a long time, and I hunt 4 or 5 days a week with at least 2 hours per hunt. I think I am on my second set for the year.

mine eats batteries because I don't use earphones much. Most of my hunting is in fields or woods away from people and noise.

Not all beaches are OK for the AT Pro it being a single freq output detector. Beaches vary in the amount of salt content and black sand in the wet sand, so some work and some don't. But that is only in the wet sand, its great in the dry.

As for my change of heart, no I just want to warn ppl that this detector is not the greatest thing since sliced bread. The CZ-6a is way cheaper and the land version to the CZ-21. Newbies just don't do the research and the ATP is waterproof some to protect it from salt spray. I use mine but like the Tejon for land hunting now that I can bend down and get up.We the People.webp

Agreed! Black sand is THE worst! More minerals = hard to penetrate with a detector.

Welcome, I don't have a beach (so to speak) around me, I have coal fields... and sometimes that coal can give the MD a stroke, but that is where your experience with your tool comes into play. Making adjustments, and the AT Pro has many, usually can compensate for those days when it seems you got targets everywhere, where as, in reality it is just Mother Nature screwing with you. I do use mine in water and it works great, just not salt water. Be sure to keep those connectors lubed if you will be spending a lot of time in water. Head on over to your hardware store and get some plumbers silicone, smear a small amount around those O-rings every once and awhile too. I use it but some guys say it only attracts crap and they don't use it. Your call, but I would. Good luck, and tell the lucky lady "Happy Birthday" from the old man too.

Coal mines?? Wow bet that makes detecting TOUGH!

It sure does Bart, you want to talk about hot rocks. LOL! What I learned, and I am sure a lot of the PA gang has too, is that the early settlers buried or threw their coal ashes in their yards, and that will definitely make your detector go nuts. Once you dig a few of those hits you quickly realize what you are dealing with and then decide if you should walk on by. However, some of those old home sites gave me some of my best finds too. WWI buttons, company store tokens, I just found one of those tokens at my parents home, which got me very excited, and a few silver quarters. You just make a few adjustments, re-balance and keep swinging.

I dug an old ash pile when I 1st got my ATP and thought something was wrong or the ATP was crap until I read about old ash piles. I did however find a piece of melted gold in it. Since then i am loving it.

I just added up the hours I have used my ATP and it comes to 372 hours and $399 in clad in one year. I bought it one year ago next week.
