We had to work hard to find anything today.
Started at the pipeline trench which we knew was going to be no good but had to finish for completeness. I found the bottle which didn't quite come out whole & 1 Victorian general service button.
Then we tried a nearby grass field which normally has cows in. Only managed a blank copper & a modern 1/2 penny. All the modern rubbish was a good 4inches down so the old stuff was probably out of range.
Finally we went to a grass field that usually has sheep in it. We have covered this field very well in the past and have had Roman Silver & hammered from it. As its been so wet & the sheep have done their job we thought it worth ago. We only had 1 hour on it and found several items including 3 scrappy roman coins. So the 2008 count has begun early.
The lead item is a 14th century medieval pilgrims holy water container. Found in churches where pilgrims would dip their fingers in the holy water & bless themselves. This was damaged but its a first for me

Last years roman to hammered ratio was 20/1.
