Ace 350
Went to and old homesite from the early 1900s. Lots of clad and my first silver coin. Not having any luck finding silver coins after several weeks of searching old homesites and an old store site. Only a few wheat pennies. Maybe the silver is just to deep for the ace 350, any suggestions on how deep silver is normally found. I know several factors are involved. Not sure if it is where i am searching or if the silver is deeper than 10 inches normally. I have only been detecting for a month or so but have put in alot of time and research before getting started.

I would say most silver (and other coins) are shallower than ten inches. I tend to find them mainly around 6-8 inches, and some are occasionally shallower or deeper. If you're hunting in the woods coins usually seem to not sink as much, so depth might not be the obstacle you might think.

You might find more old coins if you try hunting a different sort of location. I used to hunt some cellar holes. Out of the about 10 that I hunted I only ever found coins at two. I got frustrated until I switched to parks, where it seems that people lose more coins.

And congratulations on your first silver!

Congrats on your first silver.

Location has alot to do with Depth

& Number of persons before You.

Heavy hit areas only have deep silver left.
which means more Barbers
& Early Mercs

Soft Ground, Tilled Ground are Exceptions also

Welcome :hello:
Congrats on your silver, guessing you now have the fever.
Your 350 will find a lot of silver.
If it's there.
It's mostly a matter of where you hunt, I Look forward to seeing more. HH

If the clad in your avatar is how much you'be dug, and have found a silver dime, that is probably not a bad average. Silver is just not all that easy to come by these days. Congrats on the first, and welcome to Tnet :hello:

Congrate's :hello2: on your first silver. I still remember mine. So far this year I've found 2 silvers in 2 different days.

But it's all about the History and the research you do in the area.

I spent an hour in the lib. looking at older plot maps and some then and know books. and found a couple more sites.

Keep the Hunt interesting. Test yourself and research more. It dose not matter what type of machine your using it's your knowledge of it and the area your in.

Happy Hunting :read2:

Congrats on your first silver. You will find more.I never used the ace 250 or 350,since my friend who got me into metal detecting sold me on a minelab. But I always figured if I could pick up a 250 at a sale cheap I would buy it.I see many finds on here that they say were found with a ace 250.If they can find the good stuff so can you.Your day will come when you bring home few silver coins just keep at it and good luck. :icon_thumleft:

Congrats on that shinie, keep at it and there will be many more. That 350 will get you deep enough to get silvers if you put the coil over them. HH! :icon_thumleft:

Congratulations on your first silver.

WTG on your first Silver. I use and have used the ACE250 for three years. The only machine I have. My silver include the following coins 1943 WL Half,1954 Half, 1908 Barber Dime, 1903 V nickle, 1876 Seated liberty Quarter. Jewlery includes several rings and bracelets as well as at least three gold rings. I have yet to find a rosie or a merc. those are the two that I have on top of my wish list. When I started I read all of the books that came with the ACE 250. In one (not sure which one) it stated that a new detectorists would need approximately 100 hours before he/she would begin to know their machine. I used that as my goal. Not long after I hit the 100 hour mark I began to recognize what the machine was saying and that it was not kidding me. What it said was there was there. (for the most part) every machine can be tricked and it happens. My finds increased and their number and variety improved. I hunt some old homes, (not many), parks (a lot) as well as along the sidewalks between the sidewalk and the curb. Its amasing what is lost. Don't give up time is on your side. HHHH
