Detector(s) used
Bounty Hunter QuickSilver
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
I've been metal detecting with my son since he got a Bounty Hunter Quicksilver for his birthday 3 months ago. In that time, he's put up quite a collection of clad and junk. Probably $10-12 in clad, and a HUGE box of stuff. We've both always talked about finding some silver in our neighborhood, since the houses were built in the late 40's, early 50's.

Saturday afternoon, we went down the street to a neighbor's where we have found old toys before. Dug a little bit of clad, and a neat old Batman mask. On the way home he casually hit 2 or 3 pennies in the edge of the next house's gravel driveway. It was getting dark, and he said he wanted to hit it again FIRST THING in the morning...

Sunday rolls around, and I let him lay around til about 9. Asked him if he was ready, and he said he wants to watch the rest of his show... Fine. 9:30, and I asked again. Still wants to see Ninja Turtles... Fine. I'm going in the back yard with your MD. "Ok, have fun"...

Went over an area right outside the back door that we have hit DOZENS of times, and got a screaming coin signal. About 4" down, turned the plug, and saw the white edge of that 63' Roosevelt dime!!!! I carried the whole plug inside to show him, and you've never seen a kid get dressed so fast.

We wound up finding so many pennies I got tired of digging them! Got 2 wheats, a penny that was so deteriorated, it was about to fall apart, a million pull tabs, and a cool old Matchbox snow cat toy in pretty decent shape. Also found the charm bracelet charm in the pic. It was about 4-5" deep right next to the front step of the neighbor's house. The link is marked "Lestage Sterling", but I have my doubts about the charm itself. Not a speck of tarnish on it anywhere.

Nice finds. I know you must wish he could have been there with you when you first popped the plug out and saw it for the first time. Keep hunting together and it will happen.. HH

Yep, I hear the slight "frustration" in the words of an adult who has grown up, forgetting what is TRULY the correct priorities in life. ;)
Some things can just plain wait. LOL

Wouldn't have surprised me if he had just looked at this gr'up holding an obvious, (to the adult), reason for dropping everything and getting out there where "he" wants him! After seeing, he just tossed off-handedly, "Nice dad. Now, shhhh! I'm watching here!" LOL

Nice saves!!

It's the hammer from an old toy cap gun. Must be some kind of copper alloy. Rang up just like a coin.

Congrats to you & son on productive weekend!:hello2: :icon_thumright: The charm may well be silver because two silver rings I've dug had no tarnish either!

Love your red snow cat vehicle, would be a great addition to my red British petrol truck dug my first year out, lol. Send it on over! :tongue3:

HAVE FUN! Andi

Aha! Can totally see it now! Either way, I bet it was still neat to pull up.

Andi, that snowcat was made by a company called Lesney in England for Matchbox, so it's British!

LOL! Silver will make them move faster every time! Nice finds and a real good MD'ing buddy! Congrats!
