Mobius1 , I would like to hear more about the ring you sold for $900 I'm thinking it must have been heavy - or had some good rocks in it , or both .
This was a ring I found in the same park two weeks ago. Literally only across the street from the silver ring! I found it with my Xterra 305 and I was jaw dropped to see the glint of gold come out. Wow what a sight it is...
I got it appraised at many jewelers to be able to use the funds to buy a brand new Etrac. Kay jewelers wanted $2k store credit, a pawn shop wanted $300, a local jeweler said $750, and my aunt also wanted to but it.
It was an 18K gold weighing in at 6.88g, 3/4K diamond centerpiece and looks very old.
I knew that I'd get a lot of money for it and went ahead to purchase the Etrac before selling the ring. I was one happy customer that day like we all are when there's a new detector in our lineup!
I wanted $1100 for the ring from my aunt but she was iffy about that price so we settled on $900. I'm happy, she's happy, and she might sell the band to my other aunt since she only wants the diamond haha.
That find paid for the Xterra and everything that I bought towards metal detecting in 2.5 years. I realized though that it's not always about the money but just the feeling of being in the field alone with that detector, the both of you wandering into different places and pulling out artifacts from decades ago. That's why I enjoy doing why I do.
