One of these has been on my list since I got into this hobby. Took 16 months to finally get one till a couple evenings ago at a park that sits on early ground. Dug a seated, 4 Barbers and a bunch of Washingtons so this was a great surprise!

On my list as well. Nice Find!

Took me 10 years to find one of those ! Nice find.

You've dug a seated quarter and 4 barber quarters before you got the SLQ? That's not the way it works out here!

Congratulations on the first of many. Now, next bucketlister!

Thanks! Very strange dig. High tone breaking through iron. Sounded too good to pass up. Depth meter was showing 8". Dug a deep hole.....nothing. swung over hole, nothing.....covered up hole and checked it. Beautiful high tone saying dig me! Reopened plug and it was there in a clump of packed soil. Came out with a nice sized chunk of iron too.

They seem very hard to come by from what I've seen so far.

Lol! Crazy how this stuff goes, huh? Crap, I've found a capped bust and cut spanish before this. Hahaha.

Cut spanish.....yea, I think I'll have to visit the east for that, as well as the bust.
I found another SLQ last month. It's a 1927. ALL of my dug SLQ's have dates and I'm getting close to ten. (definitely weird)
I've been doing this on and off since mid 80's and I don't have ANY barber quarters. Lots of dimes but nothing bigger. I just found my first seated, a 1883 dime, last thanksgiving day.

Nice I just found my second. Never thought I’d see another. Sucks they are always worn to hell.

Nice one. Congrats!

Very hard to find.. but now you have one. Congrats!

Beautiful find indeed, and always welcome. I have found 2...the first in '79 about 4 inches away from a chain-link fence. Was using a White's 6dB at the time in TR disc. mode. I had "tuned" the unit to the fence and walked slowly down its length...something you could do with the non-motion TR circuitry. Got a good solid
signal and there it was. As with yours, it was dateless ( date wear being a common failing to this coin design). Still a thrill for me though. Found my second one
3-4 years later in school yard from the 50's (again, no date). From a numismatic standpoint, this coin is one of my 2 favorite designs along with the Walker half.
In mint state they are truly beautiful. You should definitely re-hunt the site.....might be another one there! Great job.

I have to agree with the person above, the SLQ is probably one of the prettier coin design the US has come up with. Yours is no exception. Congrats on a coin still on a lot of bucket lists!

Cool story! Would be fun to go back in time and watch people hunt with the older machines.

Into a coin folder. Mark the date found, and in big red letters put; FIRST

Beautiful find ! That thing deserves it's own shadow box display. Congrats on the find and the emotions that come with it ! :)

Congrats on your First - a sweet piece of silver!:hello2:

Congrats on your 1st SLQ HVDI :occasion14: I took me 23 months to dig my 1st SLQ.
