Been beach hunting for last several days while on vacation and my m6 is doing great but digging the target in the wet sand is very tricky....its like quick sand if you don't get with the scoop before water comes in again...very different then what I'm used to in Indiana. Any tips would be appreciated. I've seen several others with detectors but seems everyones in there own world detecting and I don't want to intrude. lol

Also what is best area to detect? i'm assuming low tide?

Jibb, here is my opinion regarding productive areas of beach to hunt:

Anywhere beach goers congregate ("towel line"), volley ball area, wet sand slope, along "cut line " , shell/pebble/ rocky areas, troughs, low tide "flats", and beyond if you are willing to get into the water further than low tide line.

Digging in the wet sand can be tricky depending on how close to the shoreline you are digging; taking as deep a scoopful as possible will help.

I experienced the misfortune of seeing a very nice large gold earring slip away from my scoop's grasp as water quickly washed into the hole ( careless detecting)...tried several times to retrieve it with no success..watched the waves take it away :'(

Other members here I'm sure have great ideas on this topic to share with you; I hope I have helped you in some way.

Awesome information thank you! I dont feel so bad about my target sinking away...hopefully was just a poptab and not a ring. Lol. Well heading back out now...only two days left here. :(

Try to take a bit more time on the pinpointing, also determining the suspected depth of the target. Consider starting your scoop a bit further back as the angle of the scoop often passes over the target instead of capturing it. Also, keep the scoop moving forward all the way through the process as this reduces the chance of a spillout VS pulling back or straight up. On suspected deeper targets try taking half a scoop full on the first try, less chance of moving the target and a better chance of recovering it on the second attempt with a full scoop.

Anywhere people have been even in years past. It would take many pages to bring you up to speed. You can learn more from the master, thegoldenolde. The Golden Olde :metaldetector:

Great link Sandman! Thats about all the information anyone would need. Wish I lived closer to the ocean to be able to do some of that. Very interesting reading.

in the water if you cant see the bottom after pin pointing your target put your foot just behind your coil and dig in front of your foot and if you keep missing it, go at it in another direction, if the water is too ruff hunt the wet sand & beach
