I'm going to hunt the beach tomorrow for the first time here in San Diego and I'm looking for pointers and suggestions. Dry sand or wet sand? Any spots typically better then others (i.e. life guard towers, etc)?

Using a BH Pioneer 202

Thanks

Try around the entry/exit areas, and any obvious party spots fom last night, around the bath houses, more people=more losses
for older items, look for deeper cuts in the wet sand left by tidal rips.
Good luck, let us know how ya did...

Your probably going to be hunting mostly the dry sand, if you hunt the wet sand you will need to turn your sensetivity way down , the salt minerals will drive your detector nuts if you don't.

Wow, thanks for the great advice! I hunted around firepits and entry areas and did ok with clad, lots of dimes and quarters no silver. I did find some really cool matchbox cars, my kids liked that. I did try the wet sand and yes my BH Pioneer 202 went crazy even with the sensitivity way down. I guess I need to work on that more, but overall not a bad hunt. I'm still learning my machine and just happy to find stuff and work on my pinpointing. Not bad for 3 hrs and the first time in the sand.

Good to see you are taking the trash with you. I like that. Next time you go, try the area of the sand just before it slopes to the water. That is where most people lay the blankets out. Keep at it. Acre for acre, most beaches are cleaner than parks. When you put your time in, "rings 'n things" will start showing up! GL TTC
