Hi y'all,

I am a newbie and today was my first time out of my own yard and boy did I have fun. I only had an hour and a half to dig and search but my finds were promising. I found a dump site or a partying site but there was an aweful lot of trash for it to be just the later. I can't wait to get back out there as it was very exciting and peaceful at the same time. Ok well I did jump when my dog sent a HUGE BLACK SNAKE slithering into the water. Then she chased something in the water again and this time the bottom fell out on her :sign10: and she was now swimming. Oh to have had the camera out and gotten a pic of the look on her face. However that was all it took for her to realize she doesn't really hate water so much.. I think that I will be at this site for a very long time and I didn't even get to walk around the whole island. Any ideas of dates of the bottles or cans would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Allmtl

Congrats Allmtl for venturing out of the yard. It's fun exploring new areas. Interesting seeing what's really under what looks to be a clean area. Keep digging!

Good to see ya here and cant wait for more great pics of your finds.

Heres a quote from Viper on dating bottles.

Usually the best method to date a bottle is the mold seam.

Before 1860: Seams extend to just over the "shoulders" of the bottle

1860-1880: Seams go most of the way up the neck of the bottle

1880-1890: Seams continue through the top but not through or over the lip

1900-present: Seams extend the full length of the bottle and over the lip.

I didn't post 1860 and earlier because I feel your bottles are probably 1900's. But shoot, I'm no expert...so hopefully someone will add more to aid in your date quest:)

I found a couple of beauties over the weekend..green glass bottles...love it when that happens!

Looks like a lot of partying going on back in the day.

Sounds like a cool place to hunt! As far as the steel beer cans go, if you find obsolete brands in decent shape having not much rust they can be worth some bucks. Worth even more are the cone top beer cans. Just do a search on flat top beer cans or cone top beer cans, there are alot of neat websites on them and many collectors. Some cans are worth thousands of dollars.

Good Luck!
Steve
