Went out for the very first time yesterday and had a blast!! Took my 8 yo son and met up with Bavaria Mike. Needless to say I think that my son PJ and I are now hooked for life!!!! We hunted near BavarieMike's house on an old farmers field that had once been the begining of a village in the mid 1200's. The weather started out looking life it could rain at any second, cold and windy. PJ and I were not very well pepared, but THANKS to BavariaMike, we borrowed the right gear to make it through the day. BavariaMike let me borrow his Garrett 250 and a pinpointer. He showed me how to work it, and gave me lots of tips!! I got really good at finding junk, but hey I was at least finding something!!! :icon_king: My first real find was an old square nail!!! Mike found a 1943 German coin and gave it to PJ. That got him VERY excited and now he has the start of his own collection. Thanks Mike . After we took a break, we crossed the road and started a hunting a new field. Within about 5 min I found my first muskett ball. Happy DANCE.. :icon_jokercolor: A few meters from there I hit my first coin. It is in rough shape, but BavariaMike looked at it, and had found a few in that area the day before from the mid 1800's and they a SILVER!!!! More happy Danicing!!!!! :tongue3: All in all it was a great day for me and my son. I would like to thank BavariaMike for taking us out, mentoring, coaching, and teaching us, the use of his equipment (sorry we got it so muddy :-[), and generally getting my son and I off to a good start with our new hobby!!!

Mike seems like a nice guy, but I'm sure he didn't
swing that machine, or read that meter, or dig
those holes. Admit it, you are a full fledged
Treasure hunter in your own rights!!!!
Admit it and be proud. Take credit for your finds.
Welcome aboard!!!

That was awesome of BavariaMike to take you out and help you get off to such a great start! Beautiful area and great finds and obviously incredible company as well! You and your son did great!! Looking forward to seeing lots of finds from you and your son!

Awesome pictures and awesome finds for your first hunt!!! The hilltop to the right of the church steeple has a castle ruin on it by the way. That silver coin you found looks like an 1853 1 Kreuzer, tiny little things they are! Was nice to have you and your son over for a hunt and I was really glad you found some keepers! It really is not so easy as some make it seem to find the good stuff. I have a beginner detector your son can use next time we get out and I hope that is soon. BYOB, bring your own batteries, 6 "AA" for that machine but I think he will have fun with it! You did well and for all reading this, I only helped point Reno in the right direction, he dug everything on his own and is on his way to developing his own style of hunting. I just finished packing up my apartment and will be back in Bavaria tomorrow, still have some TDY to do this month but I hope we can do another hunt soon! HH, Mike
