I was looking for points and found a chunk of flint roughly the size of a brick and 3/4” wide I thought I’d practice with the bopper, after some cleanup I wound up with this. To this point I’ve always tried to maximize my material and made points out of the flakes, this is my first biface… I seems I can get any shape I want and never had an issue notching but I just can’t seem to figure out how to get those suckers thinned down. I’ll add it to my collection of chunky points haha.

Nice job. I would think that Indians who were talented in making good point were valued by the other Indians. Supplying the tribe with nice points could make the difference between eating well from good hunts or not eating well. Just from the raw logic, points had to be so important to a tribe.

I’d believe it, trade your services for other things. It’s funny I tend to think everyone could do everything but when I really think about it that seems unlikely there probably were all kinds of specialists.

As for the material being tricky I was surprised it went as well as it did, without any heat treatment or anything

I took my first stab at hafting it into an antler, learned a lot about what not to do, first a longer blade would look better, two I’d be less worried about how the section fits in the hand and try to find a sweet spot where it’s not so bulky around the blade, also I’d take more time to get the point to fit tight, I cut it loose and then had to wrap the crap out of it to get it to stay seated
