Hi everyone!! As the title says...got my 1st unassisted silver today!! Yay!! Almost didn't get it at all....after hopefully solving the sensitivity setting problem on my detector, headed to a new park in the city to check it out. Not good. Cops camped out and keeping an eye on the park, drug packaging everywhere, creepy people/riffraff hanging about, and trash galore!! The place was more like a landfill than a city park. I changed coils to the smaller stock coil, but still had problems w/ signal overload. Decided to hit the tot lot for some easy clad....dug a little before it got too crowded and I decided to leave. Headed out, and before going home, decided to try a park closer to my place that's MUCH less trashy and loaded with clad. Right off the bat, dug a clad dime. Decided to hit a dirt mound just for the heck of it. Solid dime signal not 2 minutes in...I dig, POOF!! Disappearing signal again....WTF??? >:( Cover the hole after deciding to move on, rescan one more time, now it's showing dollar coin @ 8+ inches...again WTF??? So I reopen the hole, and after removing the loose dirt see what appears to be a silver dime on its side about 4 inches down. Grab it, notice no clad strip, and it's shiny...COOL!! SILVER!! Shake it in some water, and PRESTO! Turned out to be a beautiful '57D Roosie. My first unassisted silver ever (for those of you that remember the '44 Merc I got last Monday, TF actually found that signal, he let me dig it). Totals for the day were: $1.17 in clad (1 clad bicentennial quarter, 7 clad dimes, 3 clad Jefferson nickels, and 7 memorial pennies (6 copper and 1 zinc)), the '57D Roosie, and a '44D wheatie that I didn't even realize I'd dug, plus the usual trash and misc. junk. The wheatie must've been one of the last coins I dug in the tot lot (it was getting so dark I couldn't really see, just looked @ the obverse and saw Lincolns head; thought it was a memorial). Had a great day considering I go back to work tomorrow night, so today was probably my last chance to go detecting for at least a few days. :'( :'( :'( :'( That's me going WAAAHH!! 'cuz my vacation ends today....pics below. Enjoy!! :D :tongue3:

I've tried to get Kermit to work that magic for me, but he makes me find all my own pulltabs!

Congrats and good luck going forward!

huge congrats
my first silver ever was a 57 -d. I don't know if you are counting this as #2 or #1a, but good job.

Awesome job buddy!!!! I say its your 2nd silver - but to be on the safe side we'll put an astrisk next to your total. :laughing7:

Nicely done . . . those "edgy" signals can be tricky.

Congrats on your first official silver. :read2: After reading the silver tally rule book, section 5 article 3 says that you can officially claim this as your 2nd silver.

Congrats on that silver!
You're getting the hang of that Ace.
Mike

Congratulations Paul! First Silver is sweet.

CONGRATS ON THE ROSIE!

Congratulations Paul!!! There is bound to be a few more at that spot!

Congratulations on your silvers!
It looks like you're getting the hang of your machine.

As you can see from my recent post, it's not necessarily just the machine that gets the goods.
I haven't popped out any old silver coins in quite a while. But I will!
It's the combination of the place, the probability that people had valuables and lost some of them there, and how well you can use the machine you have. I'm still learning and will continue to learn about it all season. It's a never ending battle for me to stop digging deep junk.

Keep up the good work!

Paul, congratulations on your first unassisted silver coin! I once went over a year without finding a Rosey. Found piles of mercs and Barbers but no Rosies. Watch what you wish for- I kept bitching about it and then all I found for months were Rosies! Nice hunt!
