I've noticed a trend...if I have a short hunt (usually limited by my children's attention span, or daylight) I find silver ;) I've been purposely digging nearly all high tones and less mid and low tones to compensate for the short hunts I'm managing to get, so that is probably helping too. I got a new permission a few days ago and decided to spend the last 20 minutes of daylight checking it out, it's a small hayfield, so it isn't bothering anyone if I'm out there at dusk. Got there only to ground balance on a soda can...eek...Got that straightened out and found another can, from the 70's, just under the surface. Next signal a strong mid tone, some sort of horse equipment iron ring type do dad. The last signal, in the high 70's but clean and sweet with no growl, something I am not used to hearing at all...8 inches it says. So I dig. Can barely see but for the pinpointer and... it's the end of a board...huh what is going on? I check the hole only to find two signals, a low and a rarely seen in my iron infested agricultural area 95. So sweet the sound. Like music to my ears. So, the beginner in me was trying to figure out what kind of can would possibly make my machine ring up so high, and at that moment a nice thick coin flips into the hole. Yes! A 1938 Walker, my favorite coin design, and my first big silver! It only took 15 minutes start to finish and 4 holes but I can't think of a better way to end the day! Hope there are more goodies in that hayfield for me to search out, the expectations are a bit higher than they started ;)

Great find on that walker, and be sure to look on the reverse of that one for a D which is quite rare. You certainly put out a long story line in your post, and you will never forget that 15 minute hunt.

Awesome! Similar to my first one, I thought it was a can. Keep digging!

Nice find! I'm still looking for one....

I do that a lot also I like relics and rings but if its a short hunt I just dig coins. One thing if you find wheats or a silver coin keep looking your in a good area with the at pro swing slow dimes are very easy to miss a lot of the deep silver will give an iffy beep clear some dirt of the spot check it again also always recheck the hole if you get a coin a lot of times there will be more like someone was sitting and a bunch spilled out always recheck. The At signals you will learn after practice pay a lot of attenetion to learning you AT They also give more depth when the ground is wet Good luck will look for more posts from ya.......

Thanks so much for the advice with the AT Pro I'm so glad I got it :) Have you ever used the larger NEL coils for more depth with any luck. I've only found two places out of the many that I've dug that have really easy digging, which makes me wonder if things could have gone deeper than in gravel and rocky soil...just my wheels turning, but it has me wondering.

Nice Walker! I also found my first one this week, a 1945 but in much worse shape than yours. The NEL & CORS coils are well worth it for more depth but can get a little heavy after a while. I'm using a CORS scout currently and have had great results. Best of luck hunting that field.
