Cool find...Hope its a rare one 4ya.

the phillippines were a US owned / controlled "territory" gained from spain in the spanish american war settlement (early 1900's * era ) --the japanese invaded in 1941 about the same time as when they bombed pearl harbor * many us & filipino soldiers were trapped and captured and put on the infamous battan death march * - when the us troops returned to the phillipnes in 1944 they brought us minted coins with them like the 1944 "for phillipines use" dime made in the us mints * after WW2 the phillipines became a "indepedant nation" and was not a us territory anymore -- although for a long time afterwards there was a large us military base there -- subic bay * which was used heavily during the veitnam war --it has since closed.

offically your coin is a us minted - us territory coin * it is 750 silver --or 75% silver

Thank you for the info Ivan, but now I'm really confused becasue I just received an email from a Coneca Examiner that said it is considered a foreign coin... :dontknow:

us made coins from us mints for use in the US "owed" / controlled phillipines * which was "offically" a us territory until it became a "independant nation" after WW2 ended. -- puerto rico and guam are still "us territories" and use "american money" they are not "foreign counties" -- but a territory part of america --not a state. hawaii was the same way until it was made a state in 1959.

oddly hawaii was a "independant nation" that had "foreign treaty" status with the american govt before certain american and foreign born sugar and fruit barons staged a "fake revolt" that led to the landing of us troops to protect us citizens --then they forced the hawiian king and queen to turn over power to a group lead by the sugar and fruit barons at gun point and while under " house arrest" for their "protection" -- they threated violance to anyone who "resisted" or tried to remove (rescue) the king & queen--the hawaiin royality not wanting to see their people gunnned down and knowing they could not win "gave in"

Thanks Ivan for cluing us in about history and coinage of that era of Phillipines and Hawaii, and for telling it like it was. Happy Hunting to all. Andi
