You all were so helpful in identifying the boiling stone, thought you may could help me identify this one.
I was told that it was likely a fishing net weight.
Sorry about the poor lighting

That's really interesting! Wish I had knew more about fishing weights. Look forward to seeing what it is.

You found my weakness I havent studied enough drilled pieces to really say. Havent found any whole ones yet either. I have found 1 or 2 drilled pieces but all are broken rite in half at the drill holes and are made from slate not a hard stone like that one. Interesting to see what others will say, good luck and thanks for posting.
Nice cabin by the way.

It's pretty cool and I have no idea what it could have been. The only items I've found that were drilled were pottery shards. The drilled stuff is really cool.

Drilled pottery shards? That's cool! I've never run across any of those. Thanks for ur comments

The drilled hole looks like the stone is soft enough to drill like the other piece. if it can be shaved with a knife it is steatite also and most likely another boiling stone.

In the Northeast, there is a class of artifact called a Holed Stone or perforated weight, that are usually classed with fishing gear. The holes are usually pecked through, or countersunk from either side, and not drilled through. Not saying that's what your stone is; I really don't know. But just thought I'd point out there are perforated weights....

Sweet!! Those are amazing finds! I'm excited about everything I find but I really like unique stuff like that.

Lets see a frame of finds you have picked up. I like to view other finds from this state. Maybe on a new thread?

Rock, I don't have any more really interesting items. Of course pottery shards and some small things like that but nothing that uncommon. I've got some pretty nice arrowheads, knives, scrapers, etc that I'll post altogether later, but a couple of individual arrowheads I'd like to hear more about first. Thanks

Interesting pieces never saw a fish weight look like that..But may be...mjm

I've found 2 pieces of drilled pottery and hope to find more. Here's pics of them:

Sometimes, often actually, those are repair holes, where, if a pot broke some, they would drill holes to tie it back together. Other times, when the hole is near the rim, they can be suspension holes, so they could hang the pot. The same situation can be the case with soapstone utensils as well....
