Fishing weights at $0.30 per pound scrap

Recently took 70 lbs of fishing weights, found MDing over the yrs, to a local scrap dealer who paid 30 cents per pound. Got $21.00 for effort. Every little bit helps...
Also had to replace my catalitic converter on my 2016 F150. There wasn't a core charge so I insisted on getting my old catalitic converter back and scrapped it for $30.00.
Now we're talking real money! Help pay for gas...to go metal detecting.

I cant even weigh my lead....the container is to heavy to lift !! Most are already cast into fishing sinkers!! If you buy a pound of fishing sinkers you pay alot more than a dollar a pound !!

I have a rectangular tub that i cant budge - got a bunch of dive weights found and other large

It's amazing how many tons of lead has been recovered and recycled through metal detecting.

I’d find a local bait shop (or something similar) and sell them as-is……at least the ones in decent shape. Should be able to get at least 2x what you got even doing it wholesale. Hell if I were closer to you I’d come buy some of them.

What about Craigslist? Break them out by wts and sell them in ~5 lb batches.

Just looking at what’s in the pic, that’s multiple hundreds of dollars in retail weights.

most in that pic of mine are post 2000 i think
before that ive mentioned in past i brought to recycle in the 70s and 80s
in the 80s we melted for musketballs - then i bought weight molds and
made new ones - some to use some to sell
in late 90s bought dive weight mold and made my own dive weights
I had a few yard sales where i put a box and asked 25c a piece for the nicer ones
and made a few bucks ...supposed to have a yard sale this fall and may do the
same with the nice ones especially ones that have the line slider things on them

I think they are alloyed with iron and maybe something else.
Because 12 years ago the scrap yards were paying Way more than 30 cents

Years ago there was a old guy at a flea market i would sell all my weights to...
He would recast it into new weights.
Thats what the guy mainly sold... he had a card table with bags of his product.

He died from it i heard... not sure if true or not.

Back then he gave me a dollar a pound.

Hi All, I am looking for antiquity or "low-alpha" lead. This lead would need to be from the early 1700's or even older. Most likely place to find it would be on ancient shipwrecks. Does anyone have access to this lead?

True the yard price for lead was higher a decade ago. Here is the running average of prices today.

Remember the yards need to make a little bit off this also. Lead isn't a leading commodity as copper/brass/aluminum/stainless.

For a general reference this site is very useful.
