Found a new field to hunt that is far drive from my home but I can't wait to get back. I had about two hours and did maybe half of it but a very quick and rushed hunt. I found six musket balls (gave two to the owner), seven flat buttons, two coins and a thimble (my first complete one) and a strange buckle. The buckle rang in as steady silver but don't know what it's made of and it was as deep as the other finds. I want to get back and give the area a proper hunt. I know there is lots more finds there and maybe some old silver coins if I'm lucky! :)

Awesome finds! Thats a great 2 hours!

Don't know if anyone can help identify it but the buckle I found had some markings I found on it that I didn't see. A lion on one end and letters on the other end.

Congrats! Your buckle might be made of silver. Kind of looks that way to me.

That is one nice buckle indeed.
I'm assuming you know but the lion indicates english silver.
Possible a knee, or hat buckle.

Beautiful finds Kiddo! :occasion14:
Congrats on all the flat buttons and on the knee buckle find!

Dave

My son found a similar buckle the other day. Ours is kinda flimsy metal. Will post when I get home from work, or maybe in the AM. What are the dimensions? Nice finds!

This one is solid. Doesn't seem flimsy at all. Show your pictures. :)

Great finds Kid! Thanks for sharing...

Wow,ya did good for just two hours! Can't wait to hear what you find out about your buckle with the lion on it.

Rick is quite right, the rampant lion is the British mark for sterling the other mark will be the maker's mark, it may be hard to look up, but it is possible it can be found. It is a spectacular find since most were made of brass!!

Thanks. Hope a age may pop up. The field is on a island that had french, then british history. After that it was settled by a family ever since. Right across from it is a island with a long abandoned french fort that guarded the channel and I've made arrangments to be dropped off on it. Older Locals been getting the odd cannonball for years and it's never been detected.

Great hunt man! That is a colonial silver knee buckle there!

Nice job! Here's the buckle my son found. No markings , flimsy metal . Thanks for looking.

I was thinking the type of lion style is possibly older than 1900!

I believe it is a mid 1700s-early 1800s buckle. The TL mark found by Rick is a newer mark since it is shown in conjunction with an assay office mark. Like I said, SPECTACULAR!!
