Found in SW Florida along the shore of a private beach. Clear signs of flaking with percussion ripples but are these natural or signs of being worked. If it was worked, what is it?
Any idea on how to date this if it is worked?

Thanks

Looks like a core where they were taking blades off or spalls to make points before it got to small.

I too can't see it being a leaverite. It looks too worked not to inspect it further.
Now, it was found in Florida along a beach so perhaps rocks worked a portion of it-but the symmetrical shape gives me pause.

For the Floridians out there, is black chert common in SW Florida and is it commonly found on beaches?

thanks

The stone has been worked by man, like it was said before it could be what is left from a core ,are it could be just a piece left over from knapping. The guys from that part of the country can tell you about the stone type and I would not leave it, I always bring them home and check them real close.
