Dont worry, my question isnt "what is the best metal detector"... Thank you guys in advance, I have narrowed my first metal detector down to one of these:

Garrett Ace 250 (leaning towards this guy, for all around beginner model)
Tesoro Compadre
Fisher F2
- or something along this $200 range of beginner detectors.

BUT my question is, these do not "fold up" do they? What I am getting at, is I am an avid hiker and I want to be able to retract, or fold up, or whatever it is called, my metal detector into my hiking backpack (im not sure whats it called, so my search here was not helpful). And pull it out and put it together, hopefully quickly. Or do all 3 above somewhat have this ability? the Garrett has an "adjustable shaft" here, but not sure that is what I am after: Metal Detector Review 2013 | Best Metal Detectors | Gold Detectors - TopTenREVIEWS

Finally my question: is there a comparable model and price to the above 3 I have listed, that are "retractable" like this? Also quick, I know there some small "hand held" detectors / wands on eBay for $20, can anyone recommend a good hand held detector like this ? not for my main unit, just to throw in my bag as well, if I dont have my larger unit around, etc.

THANK YOU AGAIN!

I have a Fisher F2. Takes less than 5 minutes to take apart . Most detectors take very little to break down that I have been around. The Fisher F2 even arrived in a box so small I thought they forgot to send the detector.

The rods on all detectors come apart in two or three pieces, and can be taken apart or put together easily.
