Everything I can get on a Ford 5E212 relates to a 1996 catalytic converter. Does it look like or smell like it has seen a lot of heat?

I think chip is right about catalytic converter assembly but probably a 2004-05 crown vic, grand marquis or town car.

Ford part numbers start with a letter then a number. Using E1BE as the part #, it comes back as off of a 1981 Fairmont.

For true decifering u would need 1 letters & 4 digits where the Dash is.( thats desingnates the part series.. body trim,seat frame, etc). Henry leaves those out of most tags for they are attached to the part in ques.. But E1 states 1981 vintage for sure...could be used as late as 83-4..
I would have to venture a Guess as to interior trim as in seats or body trim of some kind for very few parts on a Ford sport a metal tag other than stuff like seats & trim. trim would have been screwed under hood & seats would have beeen wired to the back seat...ex for above would be like (what the - means) now im making this up.. 2e598 etc 1 letter 4 digits

5=1985
E=May
21=21st day
2= 2nd shift

E1= 1981

B=B Bronco, 1970-73; Maverick 1975-77; Fairmont 1978-83

Well it would appear the 5E212 would be the Plant ID
so i guess i best redo my Date

f1 =1991
m= 1991 Y=2000 count backwards from there to get m

1= shift
326 be build day of that yr..

i knew i had kinda messed up the last 1..

again i have to stick with trim or seat build tag..tomorrow I'll look for 1 & post a pic.

5E212 is the basic part number for ford catalytic converters with out prefix and suffix. that is why many are found on the ground bent, they were scraped off bottom of car. If you look at this link , bottom of page, you will see all the 5E212 numbers that are OEM numbers.

Its possible taz could be correct because the F17A doesnt fit.
