I found what appears to be crudely refined silver. I've gotten two conflicting reports on the % of silver in it. That really doesn't bother me. What I really want to know is the date approx of its smelting. Is it possible to date metal? Unfortunately I pretty much toothbrush scrubbed the patina off of the piece. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you can date it by pictures, great! It's about and inch long, half inch wide, half an ounce .
Is there an analysis that anybody knows of that can date non-ferrous metals.?
One source says it's from the Asian continent, so it could mean very old, before JAPAN had mining and smelting tech, or it could have been a trade good from the last few hundred years.
