July 17, 2010 I got off work at 12:05PM - Saturday school - and wanted to hit a group of 3 banks (Chase, Wells Fargo and B of A) just one block from the school where I work. I wanted to visit them before they closed at 1:00PM. I have been at the same high school for 24 years yet never even knew those banks were there until about a week ago. In the 92 degree summer heat I went on a very short cold-calling road trip.

I got a roll of worthless clad from Chase, and 3 worthless halves from Wells Fargo. Then I went into the B of A and was happily surprised to see a former AP Calculus student working there. After visiting for a few minutes I told her I was looking for half-dollar coins. She told me to wait just a minute and she went to check with the tellers. She came back and said she had $9.00 worth.

I gave her a $10 bill and she put the coins in my hand. I didn’t look at them until she went to get my $1 change. As soon as I looked I saw a white stripe and I knew what it was. I thumbed the clad over and saw the Liberty Bell of a Franklin Half. This is how I found my second Franklin Half (1963)!
