Relic Hunting
well, with an 11 month old i dont get out there on the weekends like i used to. but last weekend i had a few hours and found a small handful of goodies. my favorite is the metal plate with a bullet hole through it. there were two three ringers a few inches from it. it clearly has a hole through it from a .57 as well as a few "grazing" shots.
i was surprised to find the shoulder "guard" with a top and bottom still intact (i separated them in the last photo that has all the relics together on the blanket). Early in the war these were issued to all soldiers with the idea they would protect them against sword blows. they stopped outfitting soldiers into the war as they weren't as protective as desired.

good luck

As I'm looking at tis plate with the bullet hole in it, I can't help but wonder f it S a bullet hole or a nail hole. I'm wondering if it's possible the plate wasn't nailed to something and used as target practice. It's just an idea mind you.

that would be an awful thick nail, no?
the backside of the plate has pushed out metal that clearly indicates it was a bullet (or a very thick nail)...
