Hi all,

I have an appointment next week (for a job) located in an area I've never been to before..I thought I'd check out where it is so I won't be late when the time comes, so I left to go there and brought my Prizm with me in case I found a place to hunt on my way back.

It turned out there was a sports field in the back of the very building I was at, so I took my detector and went down a steep hill to the field.

The wind was crazy today and it was about 32 degrees, and the sun went in and out of the clouds all afternoon. When the sun came out of the clouds it was really a welcome sight..I could feel it warming me up before it would disappear again. With the snow showers we had this morning, I didn't think there would be any MDing today. However, since the sun came out and the ground had softened up nicely from a soaking rain 2 nights ago, ground conditions were ideal. I was dressed in a quilted flannel shirt over a hooded sweat jacket, and also wore a pair of jersey gloves and a hat. I hunted for about 3 hours, and after dealing with gusts that had to be 40 mph (and a steady wind of 25-30 mph in the field) I decided to call it quits.

I came up with 103 coins (34 quarters, 41 dimes, 6 nickels and 22 pennies) for a total of $13.12, which I thought was a decent amount of clad. I was digging more quarters than pennies so I knew I was in a good place. I also found a lighter, a kid's ring and a 925 silver earring. I covered the same areas over and over, and I'm sure I walked at least 3 miles during my hunt.

When I find quarters right off the bat, I usually come up with a nice ring somewhere, but not today..

Very nice....when you are digging in sports fields....what sort of method do you use....flip back the sod and then dig or what sort of instrument do you use?

Thanks for the nice comments y'all.

helencar, welcome to TNet. I used a large slot-end screwdriver for years, but now I use a v-shaped digging tool that's about two inches wide..I push it in a couple of inches below the target area and pull staight up. Most of the time I get coins on the first try. If the turf is too thick or too hard I cut a circular plug and remove it..the target is either in that plug or right on top of the hole I made.

I'm sure many of us prefer their own kind of digging tool and technique for recovering targets, but this way works for me.

Nice haul .. Can't believe all the quarters got there very nice ,.. Guzz1

Wow Nattie.....That sure was a sweet spot. Besides finding the silver, that clad count was great! Good for you! You sure do find the spots.....WTG!!

Fantastic Job as always Natman, it doesn’t get much better than that. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work :).

Maybe it will get windy here in Tennessee and I can find some gold. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Great finds dude !!!!!

Thanks..you wouldn't believe how many times I thought a small pull tab signal was a ring..it was always a pull tab >:( And twice I got a strong 50-cent reading hoping it would be a silver half (or even a clad one) and it ended up being 2 quarters, one right on top of the other.

My personal record for quarters was on Dec. 24, 2006, when I dug up 54..my son was with me and he found some too, it was at a church soccer field a few miles away. It was a warm day and we had such a good time.

It may be a week before I get to go out again, it's going to be bitterly cold the next 2 nights and that'll freeze up the ground pretty good.

Well...... I guess it did end up being 50 cents, just not the way ya hoped. Congratulations on your finds/

Nice load of stuff Nat. Too cold...too wet...and still frozen ground here.

Thats a more than decent haul.
I love my Prizm II, I usually only find half of what you got.
That was a good site.

Can you tell me what the ring and the silver showed up as on the Prizm's ID meter.
Just curious since we have the same machine.
I want to make sure I don't skip any good stuff.
Thanks

Hi Harry, they both read like dimes..bigger silver rings sometimes ring out as quarters and the gold rings read as pull tabs or sometimes nickels.

If you want to find lots of quarters, it's been my experience over the years you'll get your share in school and church soccer/athletic fields..not just on the outskirts where spectators sit, but in the playing area of the field as well..occasionally you'll come up with a ring or some other piece of jewelry.

Thanks for the info Nat..
I've seen your finds. Man your doing pretty dam good with that Prizm..
I've tried the playing fields with no luck. Gonna check a couple school yards when weather permits.
I find most of my quarters in playgrounds, or at the bottom of hills where kids sled down in the snow.
I haven't found any silver dimes yet, but my Prizm II reads clad dimes as copper pennies or it jumps from penny to quarter. Man it sucks that rings sound like pulltabs cause the areas I search are EXTREMELY trashy pulltabs are everywhere. I don't mind digging a nickel signal and finding a pulltab, at least there is hope. But it burns me to dig a pull tab siganal to find a pulltab, then I feel like kicking myself so I just discriminate them. Gonna have to dig those pulltabs I guess.

Harry.
