I dug this at a sugarcane plantation on the Mississippi River in St. James Parish, Louisiana. It possesses a fouled anchor with a roped border, and it may be pewter - not sure but it's heavy. It has a small symmetrical cut-out right beneath the anchor, and it's lipped on its bottom-side. Possibly a top or lid to something, but I'm stumped. Any thoughts? It's a little hard to tell from the pictures but I can't see any way the notch was attached to a hinge. Maybe some type of in-lay?

Good answer DC.

I do not know what it is but it's a nice interesting find.

I don't doubt it J845 as the more I research the "fouled anchor" design, it seems to be used on all kinds of items - lol!
