Found 1986 Commemorative Half

[Half-Hound]

I found a 1986 Commemorative half the other day (Ellis Island & Immigrants). I understand prices for this coin range from $6 to $60 on ebay. How can I tell which end I am closer to? Are these very common finds? Thank you in advance.

Its fairly common in circulated shape. People find them on here from time to time. Its clad so its value is strictly collectors value. Wish they would have done these in silver, they are nice coins.

I actually think there is a silver S type of the coin though I have never found one. I have found about three circulated clad types.

The half dollar commemorative coin for 1986 came in a proof and uncirculated strike. Both are clad.
Along with the half dollar was a dollar issued in 90% silver. There also was a $5 gold.

Was about to say what DD just said. Found this blurb on PCGS website. Three types but only the half was clad.

"Three different coin denominations were produced in connection with the observation: the Statue of Liberty half dollar (made in copper-nickel clad alloy; the first commemorative in this format), the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island silver dollar, and the Statue of Liberty $5 gold piece, under provisions of the Act of July 9, 1985, which provided for the coinage of up to 25,000,000 half dollars, 10,000,000 silver dollars, and 500,000 $5 gold coins. The official sale period was from November 1, 1985, through December 31, 1986."

Found the same about a week back. It was my first "comm" so I was pleased. Will keep it cause I can.

I've still never found any commemeratives or foreign coins in my batch of halves. I have found a gold plated Half though.
