I'm taking pictures of them now, but one button says "COLOR STAND", I can't make out the rest of it. Does anyone know where this is from, how old. I found in Louisville, Ky and I love it since its my first!

Let me know if you guys have any ideas on the COLOR STAND, part of it. It says it in WHITE lettering, its the smaller flat button and looks to have a design on the other side of the button that goes around the border.

Looks like it dates from early to mid 1800's. My opinion is that it means Standard Color, meaning since it wasn't produced to be a special kind of button it was given the standard amount of gold or silver gilt. If it were produced to be a special type, say a military button it may have read something like Double Gilt, or Extra Rich Colour for example. Nice early find.

I don't happen to have any pics of similar buttons but I do have a variety of them. Some are just flat others will have some sort of design on them, and many of them are made in London England.
I am at work right now so unfortunately can't snap a pic of some of them. I would check out that area well where you found the button, there is likely other cool stuff to be found.

I know most of these are normally British but it would surely say 'Colour'

People in the UK don't normally picture these, they are dumped unless they have a design.
