Found 2 rings at the volcanic lake in El Salvador

I asked and received special permission to go into one of the government controlled beaches here this week. They allowed me to go in 3 hours before the general public can enter. I could go without special permission but the crowds would be big and I would attract a crowd the size of a soccer stadium, so…. I prefer to go there early.

This beach at the lake turned out to be not too bad. I only hunted about 10% of the beach and found 66 cents in US coins (El Salvador adopted the dollar about 8 years ago). The last two recoveries, one after the other, were rings; one gold and the other silver. The gold one appears to be an antique ring with flowers and other lines in it and the silver ring has stars on it.

The ground was as hard as concrete for the first 5 feet from shore. It then went into a mixture of rock and clay with some soft spots of sand. Notice in the one picture, taken underwater, the debris one has to work through.

Some of the other pictures show the rim of the lake and some of the mountains and volcanoes of the country. Also photos of the tourist center, a police boat, and some of the locals boots.

They use US money for currency. It was adapted there around 8 years ago.

Finderzzs, the black sand sometimes is a little tough to hunt in, very high mineralization, drives the detector loco for a few minutes sometimes. The ocean looks like Hawaii Five-O. The sand movement is incredible. In a five minute period it can wash out five feet of sand or vise versa. As for competition, there is none that I know of. I know of one person who has one for land, one scuba store has one for display not for sale, and the local police have a few but again for land not water.

I thought about the lake because of the no wave factor. The beach I hit has been there for 50 or more years. I was told more then 100 today. The problem for finding big gold is it probably won't be there. 99% of the people that go to this beach are on the poor side. The rich beach on the lake is in my thoughts, I just have to figure out the plan of attack.

When the ocean calms down, I'll be there at the beach again. Everybody I talk to tells me about losing some nice pieces at the beach.

It's the start of the rainy season down here and unfortunately if they don't pick up the garbage on time the water washes some of it down hill. The guys were showing up when we were leaving to clean the area up. Do they get it all? NO!!!! Most of the time they get it before it rains but sometimes they don't make it on time. I was digging only sharp noises that I knew were obviously coins or rings. The ground was hard to dig into so I wasn't going to follow the philosophy to dig all signals.

I'm hitting the rich areas next time. There's a better chance for bigger rings.
