I think I found a bayonet today. It's around 15 inches long, has an edge on both sides, the only markings I can see on it are two lines on one side and an X on the other side of the blade. Anyone have an idea of how old it is or what kind of bayonet it is ?

I didnt think far enough to dig where the handle was, I hit the tip of the blade first and just pulled it out. There was no hardware that I could see, not even the pins for the handle. Ill have to look there again next time to see if I can find any other parts, if I dont find anything the only thing I can think of is that it was never put together and may have just been a shipment of parts or something like that.
Im thinking its a bayonet because its so long, but most of the other bayonets Iv seen only have an edge on one side and a blood grove. By looks, it seems more like a dagger, I thought it could have been a dress dagger, but 15 inches seems a bit long for a dress dagger.
I never thought that it could be a shot sword, maybe thats what it is.

That copper knife is awesome. I found some ancient copper tools earlier this year that brought in a good premium on Ebay. Don't attempt to clean it. At most, rinse the dirt off. What State did you find it in???

Im in Wisconsin. I know nothing about the copper stuff, what do you think the copper knife would be worth ?

It is a very good find. I found a celt and some spear thingy here in Illinois. Depends on who wants it bad enough though. I think I got a little over $800 for mine. The celt was a pretty rare find, but I dont know much about it. Google copper culture and there is loads of information. Very collectible

Wow I guess the $10 for renting the detector was well worth it.

Nice blades there...that copper should bring a few bucks!

My thoughts are, it's a bouble edged blade so I'm thinking military.

I suppose it could be an old military blade someone brought back (or aquired) and converted for civilian use, then lost it...this could explain where it was found.
