Ive been fortunate to be able to hunt an old Red Paint indian site here in Maine. In the past i have found pieces of broken hexagonal slate bayonets. These bayonets have been found fifreen inches long in their entirety.I recently found another piece that showed that it had been repurposed into a knife after broken. This is the second piece that after bring broken the ends were rounded and they were roughly serrated. On the first piece i thought it was just edge damage. After i found the second piece exhibiting rounded ends and the same type serration on both sides.I can only conclude that these were repurposed knives.Making these incredibly rare and the only example of slate bayonets being repurposed ive ever seen.
