Found a broke corner tang!

We have had 5 inches of rain in the last week and decided to go check our gravel bars to see if anything washed out today. I am thrilled to have found a broken corner tang! This is something I've always wanted to find and even though the tip is broken off, its still a great find for me!!
We found big scraper, lots of flint and a couple of other broken pieces, too--one of the broken pieces looks like its been a big knife.
Also found a beautiful, teeny, tiny thumb scraper made from a grey translucent material. It has flaking on both sides and is almost teardrop shaped. The tip of this thing was barely sticking out and I could see the flaking! Its almost perfect! Here's some in-situ pics and will "reply" with some cleaned up pics....

Excellent finds. The best thing about finding points is that when you hold them in your hands, you can imagine a connection with the person who made them or last used them. (Told you that was a good camera!)

Yes, this camera is the stuff!! The clarity of the pictures is amazing! We just have to refrain from grabbing up the point until Josie can get a picture of it

for an in-situ. It makes the suspense of pulling it out of the mud almost unbearable :laughing9:

...but like you said, you can almost feel a connection with the last person who used that artifact.

Hi Sandcreek, we haven't been able to go for a couple of weekends now, other commitments, and it's really frustrating. I can't remember what I used to do before I found this life! Really not sure when we'll get back out, the water temp must be dropping quite a bit, but it's too muddy to do much walking. We're actually turning our thoughts to metal detecting, now that the vegetation is starting to die. Buckshot's favorite hiking time is winter, and I suppose this year I'll have to bundle up and tag along.

Get to use my Bounty Hunter on the Dawson and Tannahill bluffs/caves. I can't wait. C'mon hunters, get your dang deer already.

naturegirl---I can't wait for you to metal detect those caves, either! I hope you and Buckshot find something really good! I found a couple more references to the Tannahills in some old Bartlesville phonebooks from the 1960's. So those people must have been all in this area between here and Bartlesville. Deer season will be over before you know it and you'll have all winter to dig around.

Cool creek finds. I know the corner tang was a thrill. Exellent insitu pics. I've been "chomping at the bit" to get out. Hoping to for the lead starts flying. Maybe it'll dry out a bit an the water will go down. Nice finds... buckshot

Hi Buckshot--you and Naturegirl are sure to find something good by the looks of the pictures she's posted! Don't you just love this cooler weather?--it makes me want to be in the woods and at the creeks all the time. We went back to the gravel bar where I found this corner tang and I found another broken point! Here's a pic....don't know how I missed this one! The tip is missing

though.....

thanks sandcreek,i have been enjoying my kids and our new area.been getting leads for a place to hunt because my grounds are not ready till winter.tried the feilds dont like it much.missed all of ya though,even flea,,glad to see your still at it too,always enjoy your posts. jamey
