Found a coin purse with seated in it! Update on token.

Short and sweet, found a coin purse in a mucky swampy spot that had seated dimes , a barber , Indians, a token, and an Italian coin. Trying to post this with my phone , hope it works. ..I had time to research the token in the group this morning at the archives, here is what I found...1896 Directory 2015-02-11 11.53.34.jpg2015-02-11 11.53.15.jpg A saloon run by Thomas Pooley in Burlington MT, I found this coin purse "in" Burlington, which no longer exists, other than a few stone foundations and some sagebrush....The Anaconda standard. (Anaconda, Mont.) 1889-1970image_681x648_from_94,5826_to_1787,7438.jpg Also here in the Anaconda standard August 31st, 1896, page 6, the saloon is listed in a political article. And, it seems later that Thomas Pooley moved his saloon to Butte, and got himself into quite a bit of trouble! Apparently he had a feud with his son-in-law, and ended up killing both his daughter and his son-in-law.... Daily inter mountain. That is insane! Super cool find. Congrats!

Ahh, great find dude!!! I once found an old purse with exactly 1 dollar in change. Barbers, Indian heads, buffalos - and 1 foreign coin. I wonder if that was the practice back then, to keep 1 coin from the homeland with you?

Amazing find. I'm squinting as hard as one can and still can't make out all the dates. Care to list the years and mints when you get a chance.

I was so worried about being able to post with my phone I totally forgot about posting dates.... here goes: 1890 , 1887 ,& 2 1882 for the seated coin's, no mint marks. 1893 "o" barber ,1896 ,1887 &1879 for the Indian Head pennies, 1893 V nickel, and an 1862 "5" centesimi from Italy I think?

Very cool... I wonder how all those items ended up in a swampy area. But then again maybe it wasn't swampy back then. But very cool guy and some easy digging also!!! :occasion14:

Not really a Swamp per say , it was next to a tiny Creek about a foot wide , and a little bit "mucky" around it , I was actually walking across to the other side of the little coulie to detect a few foundations on the other side and had my detector on. After I found the purse , I went up and down quite the length of the creek, but just found a lot of junk....

Very nice recovery! What a treat to get all those great coins in one hole! Nice work!

What kind of signal did you get with this find ? skitzy , or pretty solid ?

( I too think this is Banner worthy - voting now !)

That's just too cool! Who doesn't want to find a coin purse with Seated Liberty coins in it? Nice variety of coins too.

Steve

DANG NOW THATS A HECK OF A FIND ...

I was using my AT Gold, and it was a weird "skitzy" signal for sure, (I like that description lol) it was definitely loud and insistent though!

Banner vote coming in from me, coinpurse brother.

Even better find knowing the story behind it ! Big congrats on that bucket list find :occasion14:

Man that's too cool! I've found the remnants of old coin purses before, sadly all have been void of coins so far.
