Found a rare button! "I Think"?

It has been a while since I have posted on here. I found this button at an old home site/Civil War camp site, I have dug a few bullets and other C.W. items there, but never thought I would find a button like this one. I can't seem to find anything on line that even comes close to this one. The button has the words Boy Scout, and an Indian head on it. So I don't know if it is rare or not, I do know it is old, I am guessing at least a hundred years. If any of you know any thing about, please let me know.

The Boy Scouts of America just celebrated their 100th anniv. last year. I looked in my replica 1st handbook, and they say that the coats and shirts had buttons with the BSA emblem on them. But there were some early scouting groups before the official BSA starting up in the US in 1910 (google Dan Beard for example).

Let the button wizards see the back and maybe they can rough out a date of manufacture - does it have anything stamped on the back?? It could be pre-official BSA, or for a special item, or a generic copycat scout button. I can't find a site for historic BSA buttons, collectibles. Someone who's a better web crawler than I could maybe find one?

I'm curious as to how this turns out! (We're a huge scouting family).

There is no back mark or shank, its just rusty iron on the back, I think the front is brass.

I tend to agree. A rusted out back that leaves only the front is often indicative of a civilian garment, such as jeans or overalls.

If it is off jeans or overalls, why does it say Boy Scout on it?

Google "old vintage boy scout jacket" in a google image search.

Looks similar to the buttons on that jacket. I cant find a close up of the buttons though...
