Don't know if this is fact or not but I heard a few years ago, that you can look up the serial #s on their website and if you find documentation then it's real. Don't know but hope it works out.

Police can run the serial number and tell you if it is dtolen or lost. Also, you can find original owner by contacting Rolex.
