Have you opened it? Was pretty common for girls to carry a nickel or dime in their compact in case they needed to use a pay phone.

All I ever got was broken glass, and funky looking make-up. Never a coin or bling.
Dug one little tin container out of a cellar hole-it rattled and was full of sunflower seeds it looked like.

Lazell was one of American's earliest perfume companies. In the 1910's Lazell merged with cosmetic manufacture de Meridor & went on to patent several makeup compacts.

I have found quite a few of those. You can clean them up pretty good with Barkeepers Friend.
