Thats a nice silver thimble, took over a decade before I ever found a silver one, and it is one of my prized finds!! Congrats!

That certainly appears to be silver; I've found one, and it says "Sterling" and has the thimble size on it.

Very nice Thimble

Thimbles are always fun to find. It makes you wonder who used it in the past.

people always seem to find them in fields, why?

I think maybe they could have been in some travel sewing kit?
Clothing was repaired sooner than tossed and replaced.

Guess there weren't HUGE boatloads of imports coming in to usa back in those days???

Nice thimble, it does look silver and if it is, it should have a hallmark or stamp inside. Could also be aluminum, I have a few I thought were silver but after cleaning they were very lightweight and made of aluminum. That is a good question posted, why so many thimbles are found on fields? I have found at least 50 on farm fields here in Germany, maybe they were discarded or maybe they were lost by women sewing on the fields during well needed breaks in the old days. HH, Mike
