I decided to go out and hunt for an hour or so this evening in a recently picked cornfield where last spring some friends had found some buttons ( possibly Revolutionary War era). I wasn't getting many signals until I got to the middle of the field where I got a big iron signal. Hoping for artillary or something , I decided to dig. I hit a large piece of iron that turned out to be an old pitcher pump. Then I noticed a bottle top in the hole. I carefully dug around it and pulled an old beer bottle out of the hole. Another scrape of the bottom of the hole revealed more glass, bricks and iron pieces. Soon I was expanding the hole and pulling out more bottles and pieces of bottles and china. I found 4 intact bottles and many in pieces. One of the bottles is an old Coca Cola bottle of the straight sided variety(1900-1915) that pre-dates the hobble skirt design we are all familiar with. Another bottle says MOTHERS FRIEND embossed on the front and ATLANTA GA on one side and BRADFIELD REG'L CO on the other side. It started to get dark so i quit for the evening and will probably return with a bigger shovel this weekend.
