Hello Tnet friends,

Had a Great day of hunting with brother John and our buddies from Canada (Don & Arthur). We've had two good CW hunts since they've been in. Both days each of us found some CW relics. I've combined my share of finds from the two hunts in this post. Some nice bullets including 2 enfields and a 2 ring Gardiner. Found 3 CW musket barrel bands and what looks like the remains of a sword. Not sure what the copper piece with the opening is. :icon_scratch: Found a flat button no shank. One cool little button with a script SC in the center and a S to the left and a C to the right of the center script. :icon_scratch: :icon_study: looks like the back mark reads C F Co. * DFC * The pewter/ silver looking piece I think is a button or maybe part of a wax stamp? no back mark. The more I look I do believe this is a button the shank is just folded over. Thanks for lookin'

Treasure the hunt

Great stuff!

The blade could also be a corn knife. Often, the blade (less handle/tang) was around 18" and clipped or blunted on the end, but they came in a variety of lengths and styles. Here's an example:

I believe that what you have is a straight razor ... I found one years ago in a little better condition with part of the handle attached...put that puppy through electrolysis...great find. (Found mine at a cav campsite of a destroyed home) they camped out there and conducted surveillance and raids for about 3 years.

Re: Found an assortment of Civil War Relics

Hey Kirk,
Nice job on all the CW relics.
I think that copper piece with the slit is the part of a lantern that the wick runs through. I've found some of those too in the past.
I was trying to find "C F Co." in my button books, but didn't see that one.
I did find:
C. B. Co.
C. B. & Co.
C. F. Orr & Co.

I'm thinking maybe C. B. Co. possibly? :icon_scratch:
That script button was a neat find.
Congrats,
MM

Nice finds. The forth bullet from the left looks like it may have been carved on.

Re: Found an assortment of Civil War Relics

Thank you everyone for checking out the post and for your comments.

PBK,
You could very well be right. The piece measures almost 19" including the tang. My original thought was a sword with the end broken off. It is a single edge blade. Thanks for the comments and info.

Hey MM, after looking closer with a 10x lens the back is C F Co. then a star then DFC and another star
the front has the script SC an to the left looks like either the & symbol or and 8 and to the right of the center script a small script C. anyhow I've not been able to find anything on the back mark either. Thanks for researching it Sir. If you by chance discover anything please let me know.
