It's pretty crusty. Weighs about 9g and I can see a wreath going around it on one side but nothing on the other. What would be a good way to clean it? I'm thinking it's copper.

thanks

Looks like an early one or half cent coin to me. NICE! I don't find largies out here. Wait for someone to chime in that has success cleaning these large old coppers.
Congratulations and thanks for posting. Get back out there and find some more! You can always clean come winter.

Clean only with acetone and Q-tips. May take more than one. I can see the vague outline of a bust. Often there will be a date under the bust, which in this case is about 10-11 am.

If not a large cent, I'm thinking maybe something like this:

Haven't tried cleaning it just yet because I'm kind of nervous I'll make it worse. Before today the best coin I've found was a wheat penny lol. Here's the reverse. I think I can make out the mouth, nose, and forehead of the side of a face but nothing else unfortunately.

I think you have a "Classic Head " since I'm seeing a left facing bust - I guess it could be a Matron Head as well - I'm guessing Classic .

Great find its always exciting to find an old coin and get an Id. This is the great part of the Hobby you never know what your going to find. Whatever it is put it in a nice coin holder, and go back to that site looks promising. Thanks for posting it and hope an ID is on the way for you. Tommy

Lightly rub a little mineral oil over the high spots on the coin and take another set of photos in natural light.

Definately needs cleaning, with acetone and multiple Q-tips, which will not harm the coin/token/disc at all. In your larger images I can't see any bust, as I did in the smaller pic.
