Found another part of my 1700's Crotal Bell and a Union Breast Plate !!

Ever Since I found part of my Crotal Bell that was ID'd ( the top of it) as 1700's from the 1700s house I have been hunting, I have been trying to find the rest. Today after a few hours I found another part of it. This sucker is HUGE! No number on it just a letter N . Then an unexpected find. A Union Soldier Breast Plate from the Civil War. Almost chucked it since so many Zinc lids were around until I felt it was heavier and saw some design. Cleaned it up a little and WOAH. I did a happy dance!!!! Enjoy the photos!!

wow, great plate. I can't war to see some pictures after its cleaned up a bit.

I am afraid to clean it.... not sure how too. Don't want to use electrolysis on it since its my first one and since I am used to cleaning coins and other tidbits, not sure what to do with this one or even how to preserve it

Very cool plate Beeps! You can dry brush it with a worn out soft bristle toothbrush or run it uner water & LIGHTLY brush it. Most hunters prefer to leave it alone after water and/or brush treatment but you can coat the brass with vaseline to bring out the definition of the eagle and darken it up if you desire. Most hunters like the just dug look today. DO NOT coat it with any petroleum product if you anticipate sending it to a relic restoration master (like Robert McDaniel) to straighten. WTG, Q.

Congrats on the breastplate! Maybe a relic from the Gettysburg campaign?

Considering my town (Shippensburg Pennsylvania) was occupied by the Confederates on their way to Gettysburg and camped here , This was found just a few miles outside of the town on a farm so most likely it was. I LOVE IT!!!

Wow Beeps! You'd hear me whooping and hollering all the way down there if I found a nice plate like that. Congrats!

great digs man! u find that close to Ship? keep up the good work!

That's an awesome, congrats!! Attached is one I found in central Ohio, just a little mild soap and water. It makes an excellent display. I have since added a second. These are some of my prized finds. Keep Swinging!!

Just such a GREAT find. Is that a Burnside plate? Hard to tell from the pics . . .

Oh yeah, that's the good stuff! I can see the excitement and relief on your face that you found the missing link and BREAST PLATE! Congrats
